Montana Registration Services
As of 2023, your only legal and straightforward option to register your Humvee and other military cars as a California resident is to do so under an LLC of yours in the State of Montana.
We will do the entire A-Z process for you, including but not limited to, forming your LLC in Montana, acquiring your EIN, hiring your Montana Registered Agent, and preparing and submitting your complete Title and registration applications. If interested, you can also request a temporary registration and license plate to be used immediately, in the meantime your actual license plates are arriving.
You can register virtually anything and everything in State of Montana under your LLC. That includes any Humvees and other Military vehicles, any regular cars, classic cars, hot rods, brand new cars, pick up trucks, SUVs, RZRs, RVs, off-road vehicles, trailers, motorbikes, boats, yachts, private jets, choppers, etc.
Any vehicles at least 10 years old would be eligible to get a permanent registration. You will receive a PERM sticker along with your license plates. If your vehicle is newer than 10-year-old, you have the option to register it for 1 or 2 years (and even then, Montana registration fees would be way cheaper than California and many other states), until your vehicle hit 10 years anniversary and you may switch to permanent registration.
The Montana LLC registration is entirely and fully legal in all 50 states, both for off-road and on-road street operation of the vehicle. The vehicle will be a business vehicle out of State of Montana, and you will be a California resident and the driver of the vehicle.
Your insurance premium won’t change, as you car remains physically in California.
You may also do this for vehicles that are still financed with a bank. A letter from the holding bank is needed.
To go through the process, all you need is your title (or any other ownership documents), your ID, and we will take care of the rest.
State of Montana is also a sale tax exempt state. When buying a new vehicle, you may buy it under your Montana LLC and you won’t be paying sales tax.
Our processing fee is $399. The LLC/EIN/Registered Agent fee payout is $150. Your due with us would be $549. If interested, you can also request a temporary tag for $75, which would be emailed to you within 2-3 days. If doing multiple vehicles at the same time, any vehicles after the first one will be at half price, $199. You only need to form one LLC for any number of vehicles you may have.
Within 3-4 weeks, you will be contacted by Montana MVD for collection of MVD fees and title, registration, license plates, etc fees. For a typical Humvee, that would be around $600-700. The cost may vary depending on the vehicle, types of license plate, types of registration, etc. So you will be looking at a bit over $1000 for your total cost, but keep that in mind that this is a one-time fee upfront, with virtually no cost moving forward. Your only obligation moving forward will be to keep your LLC up to dated on annual basis with annual fee of $15 state fee and $25-50 registered agent services fee, regardless of number of vehicles.
